I teach English at James Madison High School in Brooklyn, where my students range from 9th- and 10th-graders to English Language Learners. I’ve also taught AP Literature in Texas, taught English in a classical charter school, taught international students in Tokyo, and led Great Books seminars for adults with the Catherine Project.

My academic work focuses on Milton and virtue ethics, which shapes how I teach: we read demanding texts slowly, argue about them in seminar, and ask what they say about how to live. Students write, give and take peer feedback, and revise, because good thinking and good writing both come from second drafts.

Outside the classroom, I play chess, study languages, and climb mountains.
